8 1/2 years, 81 cities, 12 countries, 900 bars.

We started tracking bar visits on January 1st, 2018 (technically January 4th, when we went to @haihaimpls – our first bar in the Bar Log) and today we hit 900(!) different bars visited around the world. (Hat tip to the Gen X fever dream that is @thedirtttylaundry !)We’ve counted dive bars, restaurant bars, movie theatre bars, and #1 in the world bars.
I expect we’ll hit #1000 in early 2027, maybe sooner (given our travel plans), and as it approaches I wonder if we’ll decide it should be a hole-in-the-wall bar in Minnesota or Wisconsin, or whether it should be whatever bar has the highest global score on Bar Notable. (Or maybe the bar that’s furthest away from any other notable bars?? That’s currently @longchim_perth )
After 900 different bars I can say one thing for sure – while I love a great/interesting/delicious/weird drink, I remember how these bars made me feel.
I consider it a luxury to walk into a bar as an unknown tourist (for now, that’s starting to change) and see how we’re treated, because I believe that hospitality should be fair and equitable. No bar is going to be everyone’s favorite bar, but every bar should be trying to make everyone feel welcome.
900 bars later and I still love this industry, the people who bring it to life, and the opportunities it has given me. I can’t wait to see what 1000 brings!
